Biography

As a cardiovascular surgeon, Sam Baradarian, MD, cares for patients with heart problems that require surgical intervention. His areas of expertise include coronary and valvular heart surgery, aortic surgery, minimally invasive cardiovascular surgery, thoracoscopic surgery, minimally invasive lung surgery, surgical correction of atrial fibrillation and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) procedures.


Dr. Baradarian was the first surgeon to perform the LVAD procedure at Scripps, where the device is surgically implanted in patients with advanced and end-stage heart failure.


In addition to treating cardiac conditions, Dr. Baradarian also specializes in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) procedures including the treatment of hyperhidrosis.


Dr. Baradarian earned his medical degree at State University of New York at Stony Brook. His internship and residency in general surgery were completed at St. Luke’s–Roosevelt Hospital Center, affiliated with Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He completed an additional residency in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY.


He has been published on the subject of surgical therapy for heart failure. Dr. Baradarian has also been honored multiple times by San Diego Magazine as one of San Diego’s Best Doctors.


Dr. Baradarian believes that being a health care professional is a calling and his goal is to provide patients with personal and compassionate care. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.
